Dr. Elizabeth Jewett 2015-2017 W.P. Bell postdoctoral fellow with the Centre for Canadian Studies. Dr. Jewett specializes in Canadian studies and Canadian history, and North American environmental and cultural history. She completed her PhD at the University of Toronto in 2015 with a thesis on transatlantic components of Canadian and environmental history. Her next research project investigates the history of maple syrup in Canada and how it transformed from its indigenous roots to its role as an agricultural crop, to a commodified, government regulated and scientifically oriented industry, and a regional and national symbol during today's consumerism and climate change concerns. In Fall term 2015, Dr. Jewett is teaching a course on the history and contemporary contexts of sport and leisure activities across Canada.
