What is Office 365?

Office 365 is a web-based suite of services from Microsoft. Office 365 provides students with free email, sites, and online document editing and storage.
    • 50 GB mailbox 
    • Option to use online Office Web Apps 
    • 1 TB of storage for files in OneDrive (online storage space)
    • Free access to the latest version of the Office software suite that includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and more. 
    • Licensing to download Office 365 ProPlus on up to five devices including smartphones and tablets.


Why are we changing systems?

Our current student email system is outdated, so we’re moving to a modern system with much more storage capacity and more features.
 
How can I get the new email?

You can sign here or simply go to the Office365 sign in page, type your full email address (i.e. userid@mta.ca) and your current password.
If you are a new student, you will have to activate your MTA ID through Recruiter/Colleague before you can log into Office 365.


Does my Microsoft Office 365 account password expire?

Your Office 365 account password will never expire.

  
Who is eligible for Office 365 email?

All current Mount Allison students are eligible for an Office 365 email account.  

What happens to my old mail?

Email content from your old Webmail account will not be migrated to Office 365. However, you will continue to receive emails in both accounts (Webmail and Office 365) until September 18th, 2014. After this date you can sign into both email accounts, but emails will no longer be sent to your Webmail. From September 19th, 2014 until December 1st, 2014 you will have the ability to redirect the old emails to your office 365 account (redirecting emails sends them to your Office 365 account with the original senders and dates intact). After December 1st, 2014 your old Webmail account will no longer be accessible.

 

How can I redirect my old emails to Office 365? 

    1. Log into Office 365 using your userid@mta.ca and password.
    2. Click Outlook on the top-right menu.
    3. Right click on your name and select create new folder.

    4. Name your folder "OLD MAIL".

 5. Click the gear icon in the top right-hand corner.
 6. Choose Options

    7. Select organize email, then choose inbox rules.

8. Click the + sign and select Create a new rule for arriving messages.

   9. Name your rule and click More options.

   10. From the "*when the message arrives, and:" drop-down list select "It includes these words", then select "in the message header".Step10
   11. Type Resent-Form: in the box, then click the + sign.

   13. From the "Do the following": drop-down list select Move, copy, or delete, then Move the message to folder.

  14. Select your OLD MAIL folder.
  15. Click OK.

   18. Log into your webmail

   22. Enter your Office 365 email address (e.g. userid@mta.ca) and click Redirect.

What happens to my old contacts?
You will have the ability to export old contacts to your Office 365 account until December 1st, 2014. After this date your old webmail account will no longer be accessible.
 
How can I export my old contacts to Office 365?
  1. Log into your webmail.
  2. Click on Address Book.
  3. Select Import/Export option from the left side menu.

    5. Open and Save your contacts.csv file to a preferred location.
    6. Log in to Office 365 using your userid@mta.ca and password.
    7. Click Outlook on the top-right menu.
    8. Click the gear icon in the top right-hand corner.

    10. Click the Import your contacts from an existing email account.

    11. Browse to your contacts.csv file and click next.

I have forwarded my old emails to my personal email account (i.e.: Gmail). Will emails going to my new Email address automatically be forwarded to that email system?
No, you will have to configure your new email to be forwarded to your desired email account. However, we suggest you use your Office 365 email account, as it is the account expected for official university use.


What if I leave MTA?
Your Office 365 account will remain active for 1 year after you leave MTA.

What is included with Office 365 ProPlus subscription license?   

  • Office 365 ProPlus for PC (Office 2013 ProPlus base applications): Word 2013, Excel 2013, PowerPoint 2013, OneNote 2013, Access 2013, Publisher 2013, Outlook 2013, Lync 2013, InfoPath 2013.
  • Office 365 ProPlus for Mac (Office 2011 for Mac base applications): Word 2011, Excel 2011, PowerPoint 2011, Outlook 2011.
  • Office Mobile for iPhone
  • Office Mobile for Android

Where can I get the Desktop Office applications?
  1. Log in to Office 365 using your user id and password.
  2. Click on Settings (the gear icon) in the top right hand corner and choose Office 365 Settings.
  3. Click Software in the left-hand menu.
  4. Click Desktop setup.
  5. Start your download. 


How long can I use Office 365 ProPlus?
Students may use Office 365 ProPlus for 1 year after graduation or leaving the university.

What is OneDrive?
OneDrive is a collaboration tool where you can store your documents and files, and access them from anywhere you have an internet connection. By default, everything in your OneDrive account is only visible to you. However, you can choose to share specific files or folders with others, and send them links to those files or folders instead of sending attachments.

When do I use OneDrive?
Always. OneDrive works with Microsoft Office, so you can save Office documents directly to your OneDrive, and not worry about downloading/uploading multiple working copies. You can store all your files on OneDrive, with a few limitations.
