Global Brigades is the world's largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization.
Mount Allison Global Brigades was established in 2009 and now offers services in medical, dental, public health, water, architecture, and micro-financing.
With their recent addition of an Architecture brigade, they are currently the only university in Canada to offer the entire Global Brigades holistic model. Last year 116 people, including students, staff, and medical and dental professionals traveled to Honduras. While in Honduras they operated a mobile dental and medical clinic, built water systems, and delivered aid, but more importantly they assisted in capacity building within the rural communities.
Each year the Mount Allison Brigades fundraises and receives donations of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals from health care professionals and multi-national companies. This year the students are holding a gala dinner in Truro, NS and stakeholders will be invited from across the Maritimes.
The gala’s first goal is to raise money to assist with the transportation costs of medical supplies and to purchase resources that are difficult to secure through donations. The money raised will also be used to help lower the travel costs of the students participating in Global Brigades Mount Allison this year.
Secondly, the gala aims to raise awareness for the work that Mount Allison Students do in Honduras within the medical and dental community, and most importantly, the gala is an opportunity for Global Brigades Mount Allison to recognize and thank those who have been so helpful to them in the past five years.
