Position description

The Ron Joyce Centre for Business Studies/Commerce Department at Mount Allison University invites applications for a part-time stipendiary appointment in Sackville to teach course entitled COMM2201 A and COMM2201 B - Fundamentals of Marketing, subject to budgetary approval. This course stresses the meaning of products and services to the consumer recognizing that a consumer orientation is essential for effective decision making. Students have the opportunity to develop fundamental skills in analysis, report writing, and presentations. This course is a pre-requisite for Comm 2211 Marketing Management. The course is delivered in two sections to two separate classes scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:00 pm to 2:20 pm and 4:00 pm to 5:20 pm in the Fall academic term 2024. The class size for each section is approximately 80 students.

Although the course is scheduled in person on the Sackville campus, the possibility of delivering the course in a hybrid format (in-person and online) or synchronously online (fully online on the days/times) may be considered.

Qualifications/Skills:
Candidates must have experience teaching Marketing courses at the undergraduate university level, demonstrate a strong commitment to high quality undergraduate teaching and engagement, and a graduate degree in Marketing.

  • Proposed Course Syllabus for Comm 2201 Fundamentals of Marketing, which includes course format, course readings and/or textbook, topics, type of assignments, and assessment.
  • In addition to the proposed syllabus for Comm 2201, a Course Syllabus for another marketing course already taught by the applicant may be included (not required).
  • Curriculum Vitae.
  • A teaching dossier (e.g., teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching ability).
  • Names and contact information of three individuals who will submit reference letters.

Our Department
The Commerce Department offers undergraduates programs including a Bachelor of Commerce with an honours program, B.A. Commerce majors and minors, and a Bachelor of Commerce with an Aviation specialism. Commerce students at MtA complete a minor in another discipline as well as degree requirements elsewhere in the university. Faculty contribute teaching to the core of the program and to their areas of specialism. Faculty are research active with local, national and international collaborators and lead community-engaged research and experiential learning projects involving undergraduate students.

Experiential learning has long been a distinguishing feature of the Commerce program with individual faculty members regularly designing and delivering course-related experiential and work-integrated-learning opportunities ranging from guest speakers and field trips, knowledge mobilization projects, research projects, live case studies, student summer research opportunities and case competitions, as well as mentorships and internships.
