Position description

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Mount Allison University invites applications to teach the following courses in French language during the Winter semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. These are stipendiary (part-time) appointments under the Mount Allison Faculty Association’s Part-Time Collective Agreement. Successful applicants will have an M.A. or PhD in French studies. Native or near-native fluency in French is essential, as is experience teaching university-level French language to non-native speakers.

The courses will be taught in-person and involve three hours of class time per week. Anticipated class size for the 1000-level courses is 30-35 students and the anticipated class size for the 2000- and 3000-level courses is 10-15 students. We invite applications for the following:

  • Preparatory French/ Français préparatoire (FREN 1651)
  • Reading and Writing French II / Langue et lectures II (FREN 2501)
  • Contemporary Spoken French / Français parlé contemporain (FREN 3131)


Candidates may submit one application for as many courses as they wish. Applications should include:

  • A curriculum vitae.
  • A cover letter outlining relevant experience.
  • A statement of teaching philosophy.
  • Two letters of recommendation that comment on the applicant’s experience, sent directly by the referees.
  • Clear indication of course(s) of interest
