Social Sciences study human society and the relationships within human society, using scientific methods. At Mount Allison Social Sciences comprises anthropology, commerce, economics, geography and environment, international relations, political science, and sociology. These programs examine people interact with environments, societies, other cultures, economies, and political systems.

Courses cover subjects that help you to understand the world through traditional lectures on institutions, behaviours, and systems, but by debating, taking part in simulations of problems, and by leaving the classroom. There are also opportunities to take the lead as a tutorial instructor or as a teaching intern.

Our faculty is engaged in award-winning research in areas that are current and will make a difference — climate change, global governance, media coverage of terrorism, workplace violence, child-feeding decisions of women, optimal taxation, and the role of the Internet in politics.

Students have unique opportunities to carry out research projects in areas of interest that are supported by the intimate nature of the university. This includes being mentored by a professor and financial support for summer research.
