Marjorie Young Bell

Marjorie Young Bell was born in Shediac, New Brunswick, in 1894, the daughter of John and Cornelia (Robinson) Smith. She was educated in Canada and in Europe. Though not a musician herself, she had extensive knowledge of the fine arts.

She married Ralph P. Bell in 1946. Dr. Bell became Mount Allison's first Chancellor in 1960 and served until 1968.

It was during this period that Dr. and Mrs. Bell embraced the idea of trying to ensure Mount Allison status as the outstanding small liberal arts university in Canada.

Mrs. Bell died in 1964.
