Copyright Rules

Mount Allison University, along with other universities, has signed an agreement with CANCOPY, the Copyright Licensing Agency in Canada. Under the terms of our Copyright License, the Bookstore operation is required to obtain all copying rights of printed material for sale on our campus and DSS is required to submit payments to CANCOPY on a per capita based on student enrollments. The per capita fee covers photocopies made by students for personal use during their programmes of study.

All campus photocopiers have notices posted directly above or on the top covers explaining the guidelines of our copyright license. As well, every course package sold in the Bookstore has a page inserted next to the front cover explaining copyright and intellectual property rights. Staff, students and visitors to our campus are absolutely discouraged from copying books and textbooks in their entirety; from repeated, systematic and cumulative copying from the same published works; copying of workbooks, course packages, lab manuals; and/or copying any other materials not for personal academic use.
