FIRE ALARM IS A CONTINUOUS RINGING OF THE FIRE BELL. In the case this system is inoperative, the alarm will be repeated blowing of a whistle or someone shouting "Fire".
Location of Alarm
Bells:
- one on each wing
- one in the basement
Location of Alarm
Pull Boxes:
- one in the basement common room
- one on each wing
Location of Fire Exits:
- at the end of each wing
- two central stairwells
- door in basement
Location of Fire Extinguishers:
- laundry room (for electrical fires)
- in each wing
Location of Fire Hoses:
- basement
- each wing
Evacuation Routes:
Nearest exit
Evacuation Procedure:
- as soon as the alarm sounds, respond although it was a real fire
- leave room lights on
- close windows
- open curtains
- doors open for inspection
- wear outdoor shoes and a warm coat
- evacuate quietly and quickly
- assemble in designated area so a head count or floor roll call can be done
- DO NOT re-enter the building until you are told to do so

Monitors:
- Leave your room as outlined above.
- Conduct a room by room check beginning at one end of the floor to see that everyone for whom you are responsible has left. Close the doors of rooms as you check them.
- Have a roll call/head count for your floor once you are outside in your designated area.
- Report any missing persons immediately to the Don.
Fire Hazards:
- The frivolous discharge of fire extinguishers is a serious offence subject to University disciplinary action. Any fire extinguishers found with seals broken should be immediately reported to 364-2444.
- Fire exits and fire escapes must remain clear at ALL times.
- The burning of candles is NOT permitted in Residence.
- The following are not permitted in
or around residences
- Halogen lamps
- open flames (including but not restricted to lighted candles)
- air conditioners
- exterior radio and television aerials
- any appliances with an open and /or hot element
- fire works, firecrackers and other explosives, etc.
- Irons are only to be used in the laundry room. When the iron is plugged in, the student must not leave the laundry room.
General:
- Each student should provide him/herself with a flashlight.
- Any fire, however small, must be reported to the Residence Staff.
