FIRE ALARM IS A CONTINUOUS RINGING OF THE FIRE BELL. In the case this system is inoperative, the alarm will be repeated blowing of a whistle or someone shouting "Fire".
Location of Detectors:
There are thirteen (13) smoke detectors in the following locations:
- inside laundry room
- outside electrical room
- outside storage room
- top of basement stairwell
- just inside main house door
- between rooms 103 and 104
- by room 107
- at the top of the main stairwell
- midway in the breeze way
- in the kitchen off the lounge
Location of Fire Extinguishers:
There are six (6) extinguishers in the following locations:* If the seal on an extinguisher is broken, please report this to 364-2444.
- inside laundry room
- inside electrical room
- between rooms 103 and 104
- between rooms 205 and 206
- in the kitchen off the lounge
- in hallway in loft of studio
Location of Fire Exits:
- all basement rooms exit through basement door
- rooms 101, 102, 103 exit through main entrance
- rooms 201, 202, 203, 204, 205 exit through main entrance
- rooms 201, 202, 203, 204, 205 exit through main lounge
- rooms 206, 207, 208, 209, 210 exit through fire escape by room 107
Evacuation Procedure:
- shut windows
- open curtains
- turn down bed covers
- leave room door open
- exit in an orderly fashion
- assemble on lawn across from the driveway from the house for a head count
Fire Hazards:
- The frivolous discharge of fire extinguishers is a serious offence subject to University disciplinary action. Any fire extinguishers found with seals broken should be immediately reported to 364-2444.
- Fire exits and fire escapes must remain clear at ALL times.
- The burning of candles is NOT permitted in Residence.
- The following are not permitted in or around residences
- Halogen lamps
- open flames (including but not restricted to lighted candles)
- air conditioners
- exterior radio and television aerials
- any appliances with an open and /or hot element
- fire works, firecrackers and other explosives, etc.
- Irons are only to be used in the laundry room. When the iron is plugged in, the student must not leave the laundry room.
General:
- Each student should provide him/herself with a flashlight.
- Any fire, however small, must be reported to the Residence Staff.
