FIRE ALARM IS A CONTINUOUS RINGING OF THE FIRE BELL. In the case this system is inoperative, the alarm will be repeated blowing of a whistle or someone shouting "Fire".
Location of Fire Exits:
- Main door, ground floor
- Basement door off lounge
What to do in the event of a fire alarm:
- Students must be quick and orderly.
- Students must proceed at once and assemble in front of Carriage House.
- Rooms must be left with lights on, windows closed and doors open. Pull bed clothes down.
- Students should be dressed in outdoor footwear and a warm coat. Flashlights are to be carried. No other articles are to be carried from the room.
- There must be no running.
- Be familiar with alternative exits in case your main one is blocked off.
- In the event of a real fire, proceed to Bermuda House as soon as the head count is completed at assembly point.
Fire Hazards:
- The frivolous discharge of fire extinguishers is a serious offence subject to University disciplinary action. Any fire extinguishers found with seals broken should be immediately reported to 364-2444.
- Fire exits and fire escapes must remain clear at ALL times.
- The burning of candles is NOT permitted in Residence.
- The following are not permitted in or around residences
- Halogen lamps
- open flames (including but not restricted to lighted candles)
- air conditioners
- exterior radio and television aerials
- any appliances with an open and /or hot element
- fire works, firecrackers and other explosives, etc.
- Irons are only to be used in the laundry room. When the iron is plugged in, the student must not leave the laundry room.
General:
- Each student should provide him/herself with a flashlight.
- Any fire, however small, must be reported to the Residence Staff.
