FIRE ALARM IS A CONTINUOUS RINGING OF THE FIRE BELL. In the case this system is inoperative, the alarm will be repeated blowing of a whistle or someone shouting "Fire".

Location of Fire Alarms:
Fire alarms are located on each floor at exit doors.
Assembly Point:
Evacuation Procedure:
- leave room lights on
- close the windows
- pull the bed clothes down
- leave the door open
- leave the curtains open
- wear outdoor shoes and a warm coat
- proceed quickly and quietly to the designated exit and assembly point
- DO NOT USE THE ELEVATOR
- report to your monitor as soon as you reach the designated assembly point.
Monitors:
- Leave your room as outlined above.
- Conduct a room by room check beginning at one end of the floor to see that everyone for whom you are responsible has left. Close the doors of rooms as you check them.
- Have a roll call/head count for your floor once you are outside in your designated area.
- Report any missing persons immediately to the Don.
Fire Hazards:
- The frivolous discharge of fire extinguishers is a serious offence subject to University disciplinary action. Any fire extinguishers found with seals broken should be immediately reported to 364-2444.
- Fire exits and fire escapes must remain clear at ALL times.
- The burning of candles is NOT permitted in Residence.
- The following are not permitted in or around residences
- Halogen lamps
- open flames (including but not restricted to lighted candles)
- air conditioners
- exterior radio and television aerials
- any appliances with an open and /or hot element
- fire works, firecrackers and other explosives, etc.
- Irons are only to be used in the laundry room. When the iron is plugged in, the student must not leave the laundry room.
General:
- Each student should provide him/herself with a flashlight.
- Any fire, however small, must be reported to the Residence Staff.
- To signal a fire one must ring the alarm, them proceed at once to the main foyer and remain until the person in charge arrives.
- Clear the building as fast as possible and assemble on the back lawn of Palmer Hall
