FIRE ALARM IS A CONTINUOUS RINGING OF THE FIRE BELL. In the case this system is inoperative, the alarm will be repeated blowing of a whistle or someone shouting "Fire".
Location of Fire Alarms:

Location of Fire Exits:
- East and West fire escapes at the end of each corridor
- Main entrance door, east and west (centre stairway)
- Exit from ground floor lounges, east and west
Evacuation Routes:
- In an orderly manner exit by way of east and west fire escapes and central stairways (first west, rooms 111, 112, 113, 114 use central stairways).
- Proceed to the roadway at the rear of McConnell Hall.
- In the event that the appropriate exit is blocked, use closest alternative exit.
Evacuation Procedure:
- at the sound of the fire alarm, vacate the building
- leave room lights on (unless power is shut off)
- close windows (unless only escape is via a window)
- open curtains
- bed clothes pulled down
- doors open for inspection
- wear outdoor shoes and a warm coat
- remember to take room keys
Assembly Point:
Students from both the east and west end of Hunton House should proceed to
the rear of McConnell Hall and wait for their Don and monitor to take
roll call/head count.
NOTE: Students are not to re-enter the building until after it has been checked by the Don and a Physical Plant representative and until roll call has been taken.
Fire Hazards:
- The frivolous discharge of fire extinguishers is a serious offence subject to University disciplinary action. Any fire extinguishers found with seals broken should be immediately reported to 364-2444.
- Fire exits and fire escapes must remain clear at ALL times.
- The burning of candles is NOT permitted in Residence.
- The following are not permitted in or around residences
- Halogen lamps
- open flames (including but not restricted to lighted candles)
- air conditioners
- exterior radio and television aerials
- any appliances with an open and /or hot element
- fire works, firecrackers and other explosives, etc.
- Irons are only to be used in the ironing room. When the iron is plugged in, the student must not leave the ironing room.
General:
- Each student should provide him/herself with a flashlight.
- Any fire, however small, must be reported to the Residence Staff.
