International Baccalaureate (IB)
Mount Allison has a very high regard for the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and IB students have a history of excelling on our campus both in academics and extracurriculars. We understand the unique characteristics of the IB program and recognize the way it helps prepare students for university level education. With our top ranking academic reputation, our high level of student-to-faculty interaction, and more than 140 clubs and societies on campus, Mount Allison is a natural transition for IB graduates to continue their enriching educational experience.
Admissions
International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma students must have at least three higher level courses with a minimum score of four in each higher level and standard level subject undertaken with an overall score of 28 (excluding bonus points) for admission. Students applying for early admission can use their predicted IB scores after completing the first year of their IB diploma program
Scholarships
Mount Allison has a very generous scholarship program, particularly for IB certificate and diploma candidates. With a predicted IB score of 30 points or better and upon meeting all deadlines, students will be offered a minimum scholarship of $500 per year for a total of $2,000. Scholarship offers range in $500 or $1,000 increments up to $12,000 a year, and all are renewable over four years.
The Bell Scholarship is among the most generous and prestigious undergraduate scholarships in Canada, valued at $48,000. Six awards are offered each year to students with a strong academic background and who have extensive extracurricular involvement. The Bell Achievement Award is valued at $36,000 and is awarded to five students each year. Historically IB diploma graduates are among the strongest Bell Scholarship candidates.
Applicants should recognize that initial scholarship assessments are made with IB predicted scores. If final IB scores are significantly better than such predicted scores, there may be an opportunity to increase the value of the scholarship upon reassessment. Furthermore, entrance scholarships are correlated with IB scores as a “base” pairing, however scholarships will be enhanced depending on the student’s level of extracurricular involvement, volunteerism, and leadership within his/her community.
