The Meighen Centre for Learning Assistance and Research is an important part of our student-centred approach to undergraduate education. The Centre, operating since 1988, has gained wide acclaim both regionally and internationally for its work with students who have learning disabilities.
The Centre’s mission has three main components. First it seeks to provide services to students with learning disabilities to help them reach their full potential academically, socially, and vocationally. Second, it strives to extend its services to professionals, parents, and students outside the Mount Allison community to help them understand learning disabilities better. Finally, the Centre aims to carry out a research program in the field of learning disabilities, particularly those affecting young adults.
Services at the Meighen Centre include providing test and exam accommodations, academic counseling, learning strategies assistance, individual counseling, limited learning disability assessments, a self-help resource centre, and professional training both on and off campus. The Meighen Centre staff is an award-winning team that is nationally recognized for its initiatives and one that is continuously working to provide the assistance and support needed to Mount Allison students.
