Majors
There are several Majors open to students entering Commerce. Students may choose to major in Accounting, Marketing, Economics, Computing Information Systems, Engineering Science, or in other approved disciplines (i.e., French, History, Chemistry, Political Studies, etc.). It is the latter option that is unique to Mount Allison and students are urged to give it their very serious consideration. Students may wish to complete a B.Comm. without major.

All majors are wide in scope and demanding in content. The Commerce programme is designed to enable students to study in depth a major subject area and, through elective courses from other programmes, to pursue interests which might not be immediately applicable to the study of business administration.

Honours Programme
Honours programmes for the Commerce Degree are offered in most but not all Majors. They are available in Accounting, Marketing and Economics and, by arrangement, in subjects in other disciplines. Requirements for the Honours programmes specifically mentioned above are found in the Departmental Handbook; for details of other Honours programmes, the student should consult the Department of Commerce.

7.30 Commerce Degree Programme
In order to qualify for a B.Comm. degree, a student must complete:

1. 120 credits of which
2. 45 must be from Commerce (27 of which are included in the Commerce Degree Core Programme described below),
3. A minimum of 42 credits from the 3/4000 level,
4. the Commerce Degree Core Programme requirements, and
5. those courses which satisfy the requirements for one of the following:
   1. one of the Major Areas of Study described below, or
   2. a Specially Approved Major Area of Study, or
   3. two Minors from disciplines other than Commerce as specified in the B.A. and/or B.Sc. regulations, or
   4. a general B.Comm. with no Major Area of Study.

7.30.1 Electives On Bachelor Of Commerce Degree Or On Bachelor Of Arts With Major Or Minor In Commerce

1. Commerce 3411, 3501, 4501, 4511 and 4521 are Economics electives for students taking a Bachelor of Commerce or a Bachelor of Arts with Major, Minor or Honours in Economics.
2. Economics 3201, 3211, 3601, 3711, 3921, 4500 and 4700 are Commerce electives for students taking a Bachelor of Commerce or a Bachelor of Arts with Major or Minor in Commerce.

7.30.2 Commerce Degree Core Requirements
The following Core Commerce courses (the equivalent of 45 credits, 27 of which are in Commerce) are required for all students completing a Commerce Degree:

Majors offered by the Commerce Programme are as follows:

7.31.1 Accounting
Students wishing to complete a Major in Accounting are required to complete, in addition to the Commerce Core courses listed above, the following twelve credits:

A. Nine credits from the following:

7.31.2    MARKETING Students wishing to complete a Major in Marketing are required to complete, in addition to the Core courses listed above, the following twelve credits:

7.31.3 Economics
Students wishing to complete a major in Economics are required to complete, in addition to the Core courses listed above, the following twelve credits:

Students must also complete:

A. 15 additional credits in Economics at the 3/4000 level.

B. 18 additional credits in Commerce; and

C. 30 elective credits, no more than six in Commerce.

7.31.4 Computing Information Systems
Students wishing to complete a major in Computer Information Systems are required to complete, in addition to the Core courses listed above, the following 18 credits:

Three credits in Computer Science at the 3/4000 level.

Students must also complete:

A. 18 additional credits in Commerce, three of which must be Commerce 3431.

B. 39 elective credits, no more than 12 from Commerce.

7.31.5 Engineering
Note: This programme is being phased out and is not available to students enrolling for the first time in September, 1997. Students wishing to complete a major in Engineering, and to obtain an Engineering Certificate, are required to complete, in addition to the Core courses listed above, the following 51 credits:

7.31.6 Specially Approved Major Area Of Study
Students may wish to complete a major in other approved disciplines. Students wishing to complete a Bachelor of Commerce with a Specially Approved Major Area of Study must gain approval of the Head of the Department of Commerce in consultation with other appropriate Department Heads. This type of Major gains its coherence from a carefully thought-out combination of available courses. Students are required to complete, in addition to the Core courses listed above:

A. 18 credits in Commerce.

B. The list of courses in the Approved Major Area of Study, and

C. Electives as required to complete the Commerce degree requirements.

7.32 General B.Comm. With No Major Area Of Study
Students wishing to complete a Bachelor of Commerce with no Major Area of Study must complete, in addition to the Core courses listed above:

A. 33 Commerce credits; and

B. 42 elective credits, no more than 12 in Commerce.

7.33 Minor From Other Disciplines
Students who complete a Minor from any other discipline specified in the B.A. and B.Sc. regulations will have the Minor recorded on the student's transcript.

7.34 Commerce Degree With Honours
Honours in Commerce is 72 credits earned as follows: 45 credits from the Commerce Core requirements (Reg. 7.30.2)
