Fine Arts 1000/2000 Series
1101 FUNDAMENTALS OF DRAWING I
This course will introduce the student to drawing as a common language of expression in the visual arts. Students will learn to use a variety of drawing media.

1111 FUNDAMENTALS OF DRAWING II
This course is a continuation of Fine Arts 1101. It is required of all students enrolled in the BFA programme.

1901 ELEMENTS OF ART I
This course focuses on elements of two dimensional design in black and white and colour. It also surveys theories of composition in the visual arts and provides an introduction to art theory and media.

1911 ELEMENTS OF ART II
This course surveys elements of three dimensional design and composition, alternate media and processes, and non-conventional and lateral thinking in the visual arts. The course is required of all students in the BFA programme.
Prereq: Fine Arts 1901.

1921 INTRODUCTION TO MEDIA I
This course is designed to introduce and expose B.F.A. students, as well as others admitted, to the studio areas of sculpture and photography. It is required of all B.F.A. students.

1931 INTRODUCTION TO MEDIA II
This course is designed to introduce and expose B.F.A. students, as well as others admitted, to the studio areas of painting and printmaking. It is required of all B.F.A. students.

2101 DRAWING I
This course emphasizes drawing from the figure and also includes various other projects related to drawing. It is required of all BFA students.

2131 DRAWING II
This course is a continuation of Drawing I. It is required of all B.F.A. students.
Prereq: Fine Arts 2101; or permission of the Department.

2201 PRINTMAKING I
This course introduces intaglio and relief printmaking techniques.

2211 PRINTMAKING II
This course introduces lithography printmaking techniques.

2301 PAINTING I
This course uses traditional media to focus on the fundamentals of basic painting. It emphasizes observational painting, especially painting from the figure.

2311 PAINTING II
This is an exploration of painting materials and means, pictorial elements, and issues fundamental to expressive painting. Artists and issues relevant to traditional and contemporary painting will be considered.

2401 SCULPTURE I
This course emphasizes the Western tradition of figurative and figure derived sculpture, mainly through techniques of modelling and casting.

2411 SCULPTURE II
Theoretically based in the Modernist tradition, this course emphasizes construction and carving various media and techniques.

2501 PHOTOGRAPHY I
This course is for students who already have some understanding of cameras, light meters, and basic black and white darkroom procedures. It will consider aesthetic and technical issues in black and white and colour photography.

2511 PHOTOGRAPHY II
This course will introduce students to the issues of portraiture and self-portraiture, as well as to landscape photography and basic photo fabrication.
