Geography

Geography pertains to the study of place -- whether city, region, or nation-state -- and is concerned with such questions as the cultural, economic and physical processes which shape these places and those things which bind them together. At Mount Allison, these and other questions are investigated at several levels-local, national and global -- from both a contemporary and historical perspective.

In courses offered by the Department the opportunity exists for students to work closely with professors and also to do original research. Students might investigate such problems as rural land use and settlement patterns, resource use policy, environmental impact assessment, regional economic growth and disparities, or social segregation in cities. Course work usually combines field trips with traditional lecture, seminar and laboratory sessions.
