Geography 4000 Series
4101 SEMINAR IN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
This course examines the current state of scientific knowledge related to various contemporary environmental issues and the public policy implications of these issues.
Prereq: One of Geosciences 1011 or 1021 or 2031; Geography 1201 or 2101; or permission of the Department.

4301 SEMINAR IN AREA STUDIES
A study of a selected world region through a combination of directed reading, seminar presentation, and individual research.
Prereq: Geography 3301 or 3321; or permission of the Department.

4311 CANADIAN REGIONALISM
A seminar in Canadian regionalism that includes a combination of directed reading, presentations, and individual research.
Prereq: Geography 3201 or 3301. (Not open to those who have completed Geography 4801 ).; or permission of the Department.

4521 COMMUNITY PLANNING RESEARCH SEMINAR
A research seminar applying community planning theory and techniques to an actual case developed in concert with a local community. Students clarify client objectives, develop a research and analysis program, conduct fieldwork, analyze data, prepare recommendations, and present results to the client.
Prereq: Geography 2711, 3511 and 3531; or permission of the Department.

4531 HOUSING POLICY IN CANADA
An examination of the role of housing in Canadian federal and provincial social policy. Particular reference is given to the relationship between this policy and the needs of smaller towns and rural areas. Students evaluate the contributions of housing to the social, economic and environmental well-being of communities.
Prereq: Third year standing; or permission of the Department. (Not open to those who have completed Geography 3521 ).

4701 ADVANCED FIELD COURSE
This is an extended field course to be completed outside the September-May academic year in which students complete a supervised original research project at an off-campus location.
Prereq: Geography 3701; or permission of the Department.

4811 GEOGRAPHY OF THE CITY
A seminar on the geography of the city that includes a combination of directed reading, seminars and individual research.
Prereq: Geography 3811.

4950/4951 SPECIAL TOPICS IN GEOGRAPHY
A programme of independent study which provides an opportunity for intensive reading and empirical analysis of topics not usually covered in basic course offerings.
Prereq: Permission of the Department. Students should obtain in the preceding year the consent of a staff member who is willing to supervise such a programme.

4990 HONOURS THESIS
Prereq: Permission of the Department.
