Latin
1000 ELEMENTARY LATIN
An intensive course for beginners designed to develop rapidly a reading facility in Latin. Reading of prescribed texts, grammar, and composition.

2000 INTERMEDIATE LATIN
The course is designed as the sequel to Latin 1000. Emphasis will be on developing fluency in reading Latin, with study and exercise on particular points of grammar as required of each student.

3000 SURVEY OF LATIN LITERATURE
An introduction to Latin literature through selected reading of ancient authors.
Prereq: Latin 2000; or permission of the Department.

4000 EARLY LATIN LITERATURE
The beginnings of Roman literature and its development.
Prereq: Latin 3000; or permission of the Department.

4100 LIFE AND LETTERS IN THE AGE OF CICERO
The writings of Cicero and his contemporaries, with study of the political and social background.
Prereq: Latin 3000; or permission of the Department.

4200 AUGUSTAN POETRY
The golden age of Latin literature. Life and works of the major poets, with their historical and social background.
Prereq: Latin 3000; or permission of the Department.

4400 LATIN OF THE SILVER AGE
The literature of the early Empire, with a study of the historical and social background.
Prereq: Latin 3000; or permission of the Department.

4950/4951 SPECIAL PROJECT IN LATIN
Directed readings and study of a special topic in Latin language or literature, or in Roman history.
Prereq: Permission of the Department.
