Psychology 1000/2000 Series
1001 PSYCHOLOGICAL ADAPTATION
The study of Psychology from the functional perspective. The focus will be on understanding the evolutionary, genetic, and environmental determinants of behaviour. Students should note that both Psychology 1001 and Psychology 1101 are required for those taking advanced courses in Psychology.

1101 PSYCHOLOGICAL PROCESSES
The study of Psychology from the structural perspective. The focus will be on understanding the processing of experience into meaningful information. Students should note that both Psychology 1001 and Psychology 1101 are required for those taking advanced courses in Psychology.

2001 RESEARCH METHODS AND DATA ANALYSIS
This course provides a basic introduction to the scientific method used in Psychological research and the statistical treatment of data. The student will learn how to quantify psychological observations and interpret the validity of research claims. Basic skills in probability theory and statistical methods will also be covered. The course will include both lectures and tutorials.
Prereq: Either Psychology 1001 or Psychology 1101; or permission of the Department.
Note: Students will not normally receive credit for both Psychology 2001 and Mathematics 2311.

2101 RESEARCH DESIGN AND ANALYSIS
This course covers the research process from the development of simple and complex research designs to the statistical analysis of the data collected. Topics covered include factorial designs, repeated measurements, and mixed designs in analysis of variance. Also covered are the multiple regression and non-parametric approaches to statistical analysis. The course will include both lectures and tutorials.
Prereq: Psychology 1001, Psychology 1101, and Psychology 2001; or permission of the Department.
Note: Students will not normally receive credit for both Psychology 2101 and Mathematics 2321.
Note: Psychology 2101 is a prerequisite for all third and fourth year courses in Psychology.

2011 LEARNING AND MEMORY
A basic course concerned with the principles of classical and operant conditioning, and with the mechanisms of memory.
Prereq: Psychology 1001 and 1101; or permission of the Department.

2031 INTRODUCTION TO DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY
An introduction to the methods, empirical evidence and theories in developmental psychology.
Prereq: Psychology 1001 and 1101; or permission of the Department.

2041 PHYLOGENY AND ONTOGENY OF BEHAVIOUR
An introduction to the study of species-specific behaviour: sexual selection, kin selection and the effects of early learning on the development of behaviour.
Prereq: Psychology 1001 and 1101; or permission of the Department.

2051 INTRODUCTION TO BRAIN AND BEHAVIOUR
An introduction to the neuroscience of behaviour. The neural substrates of behaviour will be considered.
Prereq: Psychology 1001 and 1101; or permission of the Department.

2081 SOCIAL ISSUES
This course will provide an in-depth look at a major social issue from the psychological perspective. Specific topics will vary from year to year.
Prereq: Psychology 1001 or 1101; or permission of the Department.
