Mount Allison Athletics

Intercollegiate Athletics
Mount Allison's Intercollegiate athletic teams compete with other Maritime universities from early September until late February. The teams also participate in exhibition games with teams from other parts of Canada and the United States.

For those student-athletes who would like to try out for a varsity team, a list of coaches is included. Please feel free to contact the coach before your arrival on campus, as many of the fall sports start pre-season training in advance of registration. All coaches are interested in student-athletes both athletically and academically, so please feel free to contact the Athletic Centre early and speak to the appropriate coach about your chosen intercollegiate sport.

Campus Recreation
Campus recreation, which is an integral part of the Department of Physical Recreation and Athletics, aims to provide a wide variety of physical activities to meet the needs and interests of as many members of the university community as possible.

Through the four different facets of Campus recreation, we hope to offer "Something for Everyone."

Intramural Sports
Men's and women's events encourage students to get together for enjoyable competition at their own skill level. Popular men's leagues are softball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and hockey. One or two-day tournaments are offered in golf, curling, tennis, badminton, waterpolo, and wall ball.

The women's programme offers softball, basketball, volleyball, e-ball soccer, ice hockey, as well as some tournament sports (Badminton, Tennis and Golf).

Instructional Classes
Instructional classes are mini courses in recreational activities at an introductory level. They are designed to provide initial exposure to activities in which students may continue to participate throughout their college career and in future leisure hours.

Instruction is offered in golf, tennis, badminton, swimming (at various levels), dancercize, fitness, skin and scuba diving, and cross country skiing.

Sports Clubs
Sport clubs provide participants with an introduction to a recreational activity with a relaxed approach in a social atmosphere. As well as offering instruction, some clubs have organized competitions within the club and with other clubs outside the university. Current clubs are men's and women's rugby, badminton, curling, tennis, martial arts, women's ice hockey, indoor soccer, indoor field hockey, Alpine skiing, and men's basketball.

Casual Recreation
Facilities are available for individuals to meet their personal interests. Badminton, tennis, wall ball, jogging, and swimming are popular daily activities. Programmes are available for fitness, jogging and weight training. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the appropriate physical activity to enhance the personal rewards of their university years. Inquiries - Phone 364-2405 or drop by the Athletic Centre.

Men's And Women's Intramural Councils
Students play an integral part in the organization and administration of Mount Allison's intramural programme.

Each residence on campus has or will elect one or two representatives who make up the intramural council. The council meets regularly to plan and administer the various leagues and tournaments and discuss problems as they arise. If you are interested in becoming involved as a sports representative, contact your house council president as soon as you arrive on campus.

Many students become involved as officials for intramural competitions. These are part-time jobs, and students are paid for their services. If you would like to become an intramural official, contact the intramural office early in September.
