Standards Of Performance
6.37    If at any time during the academic year a student's academic performance is such that he or she can no longer pass a course, the instructor will so inform the student and the appropriate academic dean. If at any time during the academic year a student's academic performance is such that he or she cannot, in the judgement of the academic Dean, successfully complete eighteen credits, he or she may be required to withdraw from the University.

Good Standing
6.38    Students remain in Good Standing if they pass eighteen credits and attain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 1.25.

Note: Students must be in Good Standing and have permission of the appropriate department(s) for study abroad programmes in which the University participates.

Unsatisfactory Standing
6.39    The Admissions Committee reviews the records of all students who fail to meet the Good Standing requirements and will place such students on Academic Probation, Academic Suspension or Academic Dismissal. Students in these categories are in Unsatisfactory Academic Standing and the designated category will be recorded on their transcripts. Students on Academic Suspension or Academic Dismissal seeking readmission to the University must apply to the Admissions Committee in a letter to the Student Administrative Services Office postmarked no later than June 15.

Academic Probation
6.40    Students who have been in Good Standing will be placed on Academic Probation if they a) pass fewer than eighteen credits but obtain a GPA of at least 0.7, or b) pass eighteen credits with a GPA of at least 0.7, but less than 1.25.

With the exception of those in their senior year, students who are on Academic Probation are not permitted to register for more than the normal course load. To return to Good Standing, students on Academic Probation must pass eighteen credits in their probationary year, and attain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 1.25.

Academic Suspension
6.41    Students will be placed on Academic Suspension if in any academic year they pass fewer than eighteen credits and obtain a grade point average (GPA) of less than 0.7.

Students who are on Academic Probation will be placed on Academic Suspension if they obtain a grade point average (GPA) of less than 1.25 or pass fewer than eighteen credits.

Students on Academic Suspension may not register for any Mount Allison courses nor receive credit at Mount Allison for courses taken elsewhere during the suspension period. Students may apply for readmission at the end of the period of Academic Suspension and if accepted they will re-enter on Academic Probation.

Academic Dismissal
6.42    Students who incur a second academic suspension are dismissed for three years. During dismissal, they may not register for any courses offered by Mount Allison. If later readmitted, they will receive no credits at Mount Allison for courses taken elsewhere during the dismissal period. Students returning after dismissal will be readmitted on Academic Probation. If they fail to achieve Good Standing, they will be refused further registration at Mount Allison.

Procedures For Appeals And Readmissions
6.43    Decisions of the Admissions Committee may be appealed by the students. Readmission or appeal letters, with all supporting evidence, must be submitted to the Student Administrative Services Office postmarked no later than June 15. Letters, which will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee, should clearly and completely outline the factors that accounted for poor academic performance and explain why the applicant feels ready to commence studies again. The appeal will be directed to the Admissions Committee; should it be rejected by that Committee, it will be referred to the Readmissions Appeals Committee, whose decision is final.

Disciplinary Suspension Or Dismissal
6.44    Disciplinary suspension or dismissal may be imposed by the University Judicial Committee or Academic Judicial Committee for infractions of the student discipline code as outlined in the document Policies and Procedures for Student Governance. Application for readmission following disciplinary suspension or dismissal will be made to the Admissions Committee by June 15 of the year in which the student hopes to return to Mount Allison: the Admissions Committee will review the academic record only.

Deans' List
6.45    To be placed on the Deans' List, a student must carry thirty credits during the regular academic year (September to April) and achieve a 3.5 G.P.A. on that work. The Deans' List carries no financial award.
