REGISTRATION PROCEDURES 6.2 Pre-registration: Some academic departments require pre-registration of returning students for courses in their departments. For further information, please consult department heads. 6.3 Students returning after an interval of a year or more, during which time there has been a change in the curriculum, will be governed by the calendar in force when they return. This regulation will also apply to candidates for a degree or certificate by special or supplemental examination. Where necessary, an Academic Dean will interpret the past record in terms of the new curriculum. 6.4 Students must have earned 24 credits to register in second year, 54 to register in third year, and 84 to register in fourth year. 6.5 Full-time students are expected to register for the equivalent of 15 credits per academic term. In special cases, permission to register for the equivalent of 3 additional credits may be granted by an Academic Dean. Normally a 3.0 Grade Point Average in the previous term will be required for permission to be granted. Students with fourth year standing may register for 18 credits per academic term, but do need permission for any total beyond this. Third and fourth year Fine Arts students need no special permission to register for 18 credits per semester. Students in any programme who wish to add Music ensemble credits to a normal credit load need no special permission from an Academic Dean for this. 6.6 First-year students may select any courses introductory to a discipline for which they have the prerequisites. These will normally be numbered at the 1000 level or 2000 level. 6.7 No student may take the same course more than three times or be examined in it more than four times.
CHANGES IN REGISTRATION/PROGRAMMES 6.9 All students registered during the regular academic session may withdraw without academic penalty from a three credit course before the end of the eighth week of classes and from a six credit course before the end of the second week of classes in the second term. The withdrawal deadline for a full year three credit course is the same as for a six credit course. To withdraw from a course a student submits written notification to Student Administrative Services. "W" will be recorded on the transcript. 6.10 Students registered during spring or summer sessions may withdraw without academic penalty from a three credit course before the end of the third week of classes and from a six credit course before the end of the fourth week of classes. Students wishing to withdraw from these courses must notify the Department of Continuing Education in writing. "W" will be recorded on the transcript. 6.11 Students registered in a six or three credit course through correspondence may withdraw without academic penalty provided that a) such withdrawal occurs before not more than half the normal time limit for the course has elapsed and b) no more than half the course work has been completed. Students wishing to withdraw from a six or three credit course through correspondence must notify the Department of Continuing Education in writing. "W" will be recorded on the transcript. 6.12 A student who wishes to withdraw after the deadline because of illness or other sufficient reason may apply to the appropriate academic Dean for a "W" designation. 6.13 Any student who does not withdraw from a course in accordance with these regulations must remain registered in the course for the remainder of the year and will receive a grade. 6.14 A student wishing to transfer from one programme to another must apply to the Student Administrative Services Office for a transfer, not later than AUGUST 15. (For students applying for transfer to Commerce or Fine Arts the deadline is APRIL 15; for Music March 1.)
TRANSFER CREDITS 6.16 Students planning to take courses at another university for Mount Allison credit must first obtain the Registrar's approval. If approval is granted, a Permission Slip will be issued on payment of the requisite fee.
CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS 6.18 In cases where additional credits - i.e. more than 30 - have been approved to be taken through the Department of Continuing Education by a full-time internally registered student, they must be paid for in addition to full tuition. 6.19 Students who register for summer correspondence courses must complete them by September. Extensions to this deadline can be granted only by the Director of Continuing Education or an Academic Dean.
