Mount Allison Bioscience Society Constitution:
The Mount Allison Bioscience Society shall exist as the society representing the academic, extracurricular and social interests of students Honouring, Majoring or Minoring in the Biology or Biochemistry programs, or interested in pursuing a career in the Life Sciences.
Who can vote?
Any student in the faculties of Biology and Biochemistry are considered voting members. Any faculty in said departments may also vote if they choose to do so.Elections
The Executive Council is to be elected by majority vote at the Restricted Courses seminar to be held on March 28th at 8pm.
The Executive Council of the Bioscience Society will assume direction of the society’s activities. All executive members will be elected and serve a term from the 1st of June to the 30th of May each Academic Year. The members of the executive council will be as follows:
The President (Chair)
The VP Academic Affairs
The VP External Affairs
The Social Chair
Secretary/Treasurer
The Communications Director (appointed)

The PRESIDENT (elected) Shall:
(a) Act as the Chief Executive Officer of the Society
(b) Correspond regularly with the societies members via email
(c) Co-ordinate campus involvement in the CBS Blood Drive each semester
(d) Co-ordinate the designing and sales of Bioscience Clothing by the end of November
(e) Call Regular meetings of the Executive Council and Society as a whole
(f) Delegate roles for departmental functions requiring a student representative
(g) Organize the Succession of the Society before the last day of classes in the Winter Semester
(h) Perform such duties as required or assigned by the Society


The VICE-PRESIDENT ACADEMIC AFFAIRS (elected) Shall:
(a) assume the duties of CEO in the President’s Absence
(b) Act as the society’s contact and liaison for academic matters in the department
(c) Co-ordinate at least one help session before each midterm and final exam in BIOL 1001 and 1501 in consultation with the course instructor.
(d) Assist society members in arranging tutoring for any course in the Faculty of Science
(e) Arrange an Information Session for Second year students upon the release of restricted course lists for the upcoming academic year
(f) Sit as a member or chair on the Departmental BioAdvisory Committee
(g) Sit as the representative of the Biology Department on the Faculty of Science Advisory Committee chaired by the Student Senators
(h) Perform such duties as required or assigned by the Society


The VICE-PRESIDENT EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (elected) Shall:

(a) assume the duties of CEO in the absence or incapacity of the President and the Vice-President Academic Affairs
(b) Act as the societies co-coordinator for extracurricular and fundraising events
(c) Co-ordinate the Society’s Table at the annual SACtivities fair(s)
(d) In consultation with the rest of the executive, organize one trip in the Academic year to an accessible graduate institution
(e) Co-ordinate one fundraising activity with a goal to raise approximately $500
(f) In consultation with the rest of the executive, co-ordinate one trip in the Academic year to a non-academic site of interest with relevance to the Life Sciences.
(g) Organize a volunteer project other than the Blood Drive for the involvement of Society members
(h) Perform Such Duties as required or assigned by the Society


The SECRETARY-TREASURER (elected) Shall:

(a) assume the duties of CEO in the absence or incapacity of the President, the Vice-President Academic Affairs and the Vice-President External Affairs
(b) Act as the societies controlling officer for finances and activity information
(c) Collect membership fees and keep accurate records of the society’s members
(d) Be responsible for the deposit, withdrawal and recording of the society’s funds with the SAC.
(e) Keep basic financial records of the Society’s Cash Funds
(f) Record Accurate Minutes of the Society’s Executive and General Meetings
(g) Perform Such Duties as required or assigned by the Society


The SOCIAL CHAIR (elected) Shall:
(a) Assume the duties of CEO in the absence or incapacity of the President, the Vice-President Academic Affairs, the Vice-President External Affairs and the Secretary Treasurer
(b) Act as the society’s co-coordinator for social events
(c) Organize a Social at a local bar (e.g. Dooly’s) for the entire department before Thanksgiving weekend in the fall term.
(d) Organise 1 Bioscience party other than the year-end honours party in the academic year
(e) Co-ordinate the Society’s involvement in the annual Faculty of Science Party
(f) Organise the annual year-end party for students and faculty following the presentation of the honours theses
(g) This position may be held by two people however together they hold only one vote in the executive team
(h) Perform Such Duties as required or assigned by the Society


COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR (appointed) Shall:

(a) Maintain the Society’s Bulletin Board in The Flemington Building
(b) Maintain the Society’s Website
(c) Organize Postering for Society Events
(d) Co-ordinate visits to classes and labs to promote society events
(e) Perform Such Duties as required or assigned by the Society
(f) Is considered a full voting member on the executive

MEETINGS OF THE SOCIETY Shall be held as follows:
(a) The Society will meet in its entirety as necessary
(b) The Executive Council will meet in its entirety once per month and as necessary
(c) An Annual General Meeting will be held before the end of March.
(d) Quorum at Executive Meetings will be 60%
(e) For an executive member to be elected, he/she requires the majority of the popular vote. Candidates running unopposed will be acclaimed.
