Youth Partnership with Jamaica is a student-run initiative which allows seven students and one faculty member to participate in a cross-cultural
exchange in Jamaica. Once selected, this year's group of YPJ students was responsible for determining group goals, planning the itinerary and
fundraising for the trip.
The focus of this year’s Youth Partnership with Jamaica trip was to experience and learn about many aspects of Jamaican social institutions from
a wide variety of perspectives. Upon returning to Sackville, the group then initiated a number of projects to teach others about what they had
learned and to give back to the Jamaicans who had so graciously allowed the group a glimpse into their lives.
The participants of YPJ thought it was a meaningful and valuable life experience. Our eyes were opened about what it is like to live in poverty,
and the importance of strong education, health care and social systems. Students learned first-hand about Rastafarian beliefs, and the Jamaican way
of life. The wide variety of experiences on this trip made it a very informative and thought-provoking experience and helped the members of Youth
Partnership with Jamaica see their lives in Sackville in a new light. |
