| Hey everyone! My name is Palak Satija and I am this year’s 2012 Mount Allison Shinerama Chair. On Saturday September 8th, 700+ Mount Allison students will invade the greater Moncton Area, Amherst, Shediac and Sackville to SHINE as part of a nationwide Shinerama fundraiser. Student shiners will be set up at various businesses and public areas shining shoes, painting faces, playing instruments, singing, washing windows and washing cars in order to raise awareness and money for Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects children. One in every 25 Canadians carries the CF gene, meaning one in every 3600 Canadian children are born with CF. |
|
| This disease, which affects the lungs, digestive system among other organs, claims the lives of more children than any other inherited disease in Canada. When Shinerama began in 1964, the average child with CF died by the time they were four years old. Today, thanks to endless support of hundreds of communities across Canada, Canadians with CF live well into their 30s and beyond. CF is still a fatal disease, so we will continue to SHINE for a cure until one is found. Shinerama is a vital part of Mount Allison frosh week: a great opportunity to meet new people and make lifelong friendships. This year our goal is $37,000, which will contribute to the nation’s goal of $1.035 million dollars! Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday September 8th! If you have any questions or if you want to get more involved this summer, feel free to contact myself, Palak, at shinerama@mta.ca. |
