What is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic Fibrosis is a disease that affects the lungs and digestive system primarily. A build-up of thick mucous in the lungs causes severe breathing problems. It is difficult to clear this mucous from the lungs which leads to inflection and inflammation.
The mucous also blocks the ducts of the pancreas which prevents enzymes from reaching the intestines to digest food. People with CF take on average 20 pills a day to help digest food.
