  Flag Start Dates

R
unning short of time is a very common phenomenon for many students. Even though a student may have recorded due dates for major academic assignments on a calendar or agenda that same student may procrastinate about getting started on the necessary work. In part, this may be because the student misjudges the length of time needed to complete the task.

Look back again at your monthly plans and check the major academic assignments that you have recorded. For each, realistically estimate the amount of time that you will need, within the context of the time you have available, to complete the tasks involved. (Remember there are other things that you want and need to do!) Now target your start date for each major academic assignment. You will have to estimate how much time you will need for each. After you have made this calculation, find this time/date on your monthly plan. It is a good idea to mark these flags for starting dates in a way that makes them stand out. You might color them or write in different colors pens/pencils to add the information in your monthly or weekly plan.
