Residence Staff (Resident Assistants, Senior Residence Assistants, and Assistant Dons) at Mount Allison wear many hats. They are trained as student leaders, peer councillors, university representatives, resource experts, administrators, community-builders, and role models within our residence community. As such, they show great discipline by allocating appropriate time between their academic, work, and social lives.
Under the direct supervision of their Don(s), who are working adults living as parental figures within each residence, these members are responsible for upholding university policies, and sometimes require the use of verbal warnings or small monetary fines to enforce such regulations. They often support students as they make adjustments to new ideas, freedoms, and challenges in their newfangled environment.
The RAs, SRAs, and ADs are an integral part of a larger Residence Life Team responsible for generating enthusiasm within their Houses as well as creating and implementing programs designed to foster a sense of community among residents. These programs can take many forms, ranging from movie nights, group trips, sports tournaments, or guest speakers.
Although these positions are not without their challenges, the roles provide invaluable leadership and work experience, a convenient way to make money as a student, an opportunity to be a part of an incredible team, and a chance to give back to the university community that has given so much to you.
