Our Best Times Are Not Wasted!
We endeavour to find, publicize, celebrate, and support the (silent,
invisible majority?) of Mount Allison students who do not drink alcohol,
drink moderately, or are temporarily moderating or stopping their
alcohol consumption.
Those who do not drink alcohol:
• Not yet 19 (75% of first year class)
• Don’t like it
• Choose not to for reasons of faith, family, health etc.
Those who drink moderately:
• Rare drinkers
• Occasional drinkers
• Experienced/wise drinkers who have found and can keep to ‘their
limit’ (not wasted)
Those who are stopping or cutting down temporarily
for reasons of:
• Health
• Medication that does not mix with alcohol
• Upcoming commitments (sports, work, academics…)
• Pregnancy
• Stress or mood would not mix with liquid depressant
• Money (lack of)
• “resetting the dials”
Our Best Times Are Not Wasted is a partnership between the SAC and
Student Life, with the financial and moral backing of senior administration.
Over 100 students have registered as supporters, to date. We:
• Provide information on local all-ages weekend events (especially
for those who feel drinking events are all there is around here)
• Provide money for students to create all-ages events
• Provide a discussion forum [Web
CT ‘A Beautiful Mind']
• Provide educational material and promote discussion and dialogue
Thank you to all who have encouraged us and to those who have questioned
if we are anti-alcohol (no), are necessary (we think so), intelligently
defended their choice to drink copiously (hey, if you’re sure
it’s working for you… and those around you…)
Thanks for the dialogue Mt. A!
