Building a Future - The Choice to Replace Palmer

Since 1934, the Palmer residence has housed generations of Allisonians who have enjoyed the Palmer lifestyle as part of their Mount Allison experience.

Now nearly 70 years old, Palmer Hall is becoming more difficult to maintain and it no longer can adapt to the trends and changing needs of our student population.

The University has explored the possibility of renovating Palmer Hall. Architectural studies in 1997 and 2000 have indicated that it could not be effectively renovated to both meet the needs of our students and preserve the building's character. Replacing Palmer with an entirely new building that is better able to meet the needs of our students is the only realistic option.

This project is one component of Mount Allison’s far-reaching Campus Master Plan, which outlines a strategic vision for maximizing the potential of the University’s grounds and facilities on a long-term basis.
