Why Study American Studies?
A study of American society and culture is of value not only for the general development of the student's mind but as a necessary part of the intellectual development of an engaged individual in the modern world. Students gain the opportunity to consider United States from a variety of disciplinary and methodological perspectives with the intent of acquiring the ability to synthesize knowledge, hone critical thinking skills and models of reflection, and produce sustained analyses of various trends, movements and policies. American Studies' broad approach also provides a base for a career in business or the professions, including government, teaching, law, and media.
