Mount Allison University Music Department Audition Preparation Day

Join Mount Allison’s award winning performance and academic faculty for an inside look at the university music school audition.  Well-prepared and polished applicants have better acceptance rates and higher scholarship offers at Canadian and US institutions – give yourself the competitive edge! Our first Audition Preparation Day invites students in grades 11 and 12 who are planning to audition for a music program anywhere in Canada or the US.  The 2-day seminar will include professional coaching, lessons, master classes, and tips on audition and interview techniques. 


You will receive:

  1. •Lessons with our award-winning faculty

  2. •Master class on your instrument

  3. •Sessions on “Studying Music at University” and “Life as a Music Student” presented by faculty and students

  4. •Special parent sessions: “Careers in Music” and individual parent meetings with Music Head, Elizabeth Wells, on the current state of music admissions in Canada

  5. •All meals and one night accommodation

  6. •Tour of our beautiful campus and Conservatory building

  7. •Attend a full recital in classical and jazz styles in our refurbished Brunton Auditorium

  8. •Receptions and student mixers to get to know other music students and faculty


You will also learn:

  1. •Stage Deportment and Dressing for a Successful Audition

  2. •Dealing with performance anxiety and stage fright

  3. •How to sight-read for voice or instrument

  4. •Brush up on theory and aural skills so that you ace your theory entrance test

  5. •Breathing and movement for relaxation and performance focus

  6. •Audition Tips from students: “What I wish I had known going in to my audition”

  7. •Admission Tips from faculty: what we are looking for in a prospective music student, how to get compelling reference letters, how to present yourself in an interview


Cost:  $35

(Includes dinner on Friday, Breakfast and Lunch on Saturday in our nationally-acclaimed dining hall and accommodation with students in shared residence and ALL sessions.)
