Chamber Orchestra

Comprising students from all departments of the University and members of the local community, the Chamber Orchestra performs works both for string orchestra and for full orchestra. The 2011-2012 season will be directed by Professor James Kalyn.

Auditions:

Strings (violin, viola, cello, bass, harp)
Auditions will be held on Saturday September 3 through Tuesday September 6. Auditions help us determine placement within the ensemble and aid with repertoire selection. Both new and returning members must sign up for and play a 10-minute audition. Sign-up sheets are posted outside Rm. 108 in the Music Conservatory (MYBC). If you are unsure about your schedule, the time commitment, the level of difficulty, or the audition process please contact Dr. Kalyn and discuss your concerns, but sign up to audition in any case.  An audition form will be available for you to complete and bring to the audition.

Audition requirements:

1. 2 short pieces, or movements/sections of a longer work, your choice. Pieces should be contrasting in tempo and style, if possible. Plan about 6 minutes of music in total.
2. Your choice of 2 scales, at least 2 octaves. Be prepared to change speeds and bowings if asked.
3. Short sight-reading passage.

Note: wind players interested in Chamber Orchestra should use the materials listed under Symphonic Band, and indicate at the audition that you are interested in Chamber Orchestra.
