“Neutral Mask” – Balance – Receptiveness -- Presence
Drama Workshop with Mathieu Chouinard
Hesler Hall, Old Student Centre
4:00 pm
In this workshop, physical exercises and improvisations with the neutral mask help the participants search for and discover a state of neutrality that exists before emotion, before opinion, before expression, before psychology. This work provides the actor with a reference point – a body that is alive, efficient, ready to be transformed. Only by experiencing perfect balance can an actor express a character’s imbalance or conflict. Developed by Jacques Lecoq and Amleto Sartori, the Neutral Mask brings the actor-creator towards a state of calm receptiveness and strong scenic presence. It is an essential introduction to masked acting but also to any form of theatrical creation.
