Course Description

The exponential growth rate of humans is placing enormous stress on the ecological support systems of the planet. The field of conservation biology applies the principles of ecology, biogeography, population genetics, economics, sociology, anthropology and philosophy to the mitigation of human impact and the preservation of global biodiversity. The course will familiarize the student with the concepts and principles of conservation biology, the threats to ecological integrity world-wide, and the ways scientists attempt to cope with such threats.
