Honours in Biology One option in your university career in Biology is to pursue an Honours degree. In this Department, an Honours degree is one that involves an independent research project in your final year. This project is done under the supervision of a faculty member in his/her area of expertise. There are several requirements to be fulfilled to be able to be in the Honours program and you should go here to see what steps you need to take to get into the program. 1. You must obtain at 3.0 GPA in the courses required for the Honours program (see below) and a cumulative GPA of near 3.0. 2. You must contact an individual faculty member whose research may interest you and ask about working in their laboratory. 3. You must take Biology 4990 and either Biology 4903. 4. You must take an extra 6 credits (two courses) at the 3/4000 level in Biology beyond those required of a Major. 5. If you are in Honours you are NOT required to have a Minor subject for your degree. 6. The formal calendar statement of Honours in Biology is; HONOURS in Biology is 75 credits earned as follows: 60 as in the Major, including 3 credits from BIOL 2701 or 4711 plus: |
