How do I get into an Honours program?

The following is a timetable of events followed by most Honours students in Biology.

    Time
    What to do
    Early October
Go to the information session offered by the Department and fill out the forms indicating some interest in the program. (There's no obligation to you - it gives us some rough idea of the pool of potential candidates.)
Around October of your third year
Visit any faculty member with whom you may be interested in working and discuss your plans. You should talk to more than one faculty member.
Before the end of the Fall term of your third year
Confirm with the faculty member with whom you wish to work that you are indeed interested and tell others that you may have visited of your decision.
By early January of the winter term, we will make decisions about who we will have working with us in the following year.
    End of January
Deadline for those students eligible to apply for summer scholarship support to do so. You will do this in consultation with your supervisor.
    Mid to late February
You will find out the results of the summer scholarship competition.
     May 1
Students who have received financial support, either through a scholarship or some other arrangement with their supervisor, will start their research.
     September
Students who were not working during the summer will start their research. All students must register for Biology 4990 and Biology 4903.
