Research interests In general, my research interests involve the self. Specifically, I am interested in the beliefs and feelings people have about themselves. One line of research concerns linking aspects of the self (e.g., self-complexity, self-discrepancies) with the Big 5 personality traits. For example, we found that people who score high on neuroticism are likely to be more self-discrepant than people who score low on neuroticism. Moreover, those who score high on neuroticism are vulnerable to the negative consequences of being discrepant. Other research interests include body image and self-evaluations with a specific interest in the role of self-compassion and social influences including peers. Finally, I have a long standing interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning.Recent Selected Publications Wasylkiw, L., MacKinnon, A. L., & MacLellan, A. M. (2012).
