Belize Field School |

| 2013 Program Information |

|
Typically offered during May/June each year, the field school offers 9 credit hours of 3000 level anthropology courses. The field school is located within the Programme for Belize conservation area, which is a 110,000 hectare nature reserve in northwestern Belize, Central America. The area contains over 60 known ancient Maya archaeological sites, Archaic period archaeological sites, many rare birds, two species of monkeys, and other fauna and flora of the tropics.

Students learn from direct experience as they assist in research and participate in archaeological field work and field lab analysis and artifact processing. During the program, field trips typically include visits to developed archaeological sites such as Altun Ha and Lamanai. |

| Program Dates |
The program runs for 6 weeks during the Spring/Summer Session. The first part of the program is independent study before arrival in Belize. A reflective essay is due via email at the endof the program.

| Tikal |

A visit to Tikal, a large ancient Maya city in Guatemala and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is planned for 2013. This part of the trip is subject to change depending on local conditions.

| Tuition and Program Fees |
Cost: To be finalized, estimated CAD$5800.
Upon acceptance into the program, students pay a Study Abroad and Exchange Fee of CAD$125.
Included :
|
- 9 credit hours of tuition at Mount Allison University

- Room and board while in camp (breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily)
- Hotel room (double, triple, or quad occupancy) on the trip to Tikal and one of the Belizean cayes (4 nights in total)
- Project-related ground transportation: to the field camp, to and from fieldwork locations, to and from Tikal, Guatemala, round trip small craft airfare to one of the cayes, pick up and drop off at the Belize International airport
- admission fees for archaeological sites visited on weekends and for Tikal
- border crossing and immigration fees for the trip to Guatemala
- laundry service once per week (wash, dry, fold)
- use of necessary field equipment and supplies
- weekend field trips to archaeological sites

| Applications |
Admission to the program is by application. The program considers applications from undergraduate students from outside Mount Allison University. Students from a variety of universities have attended in the past and obtained transfer credit through pre-arrangement.
