M. Nauman Farooqi, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Norway International Exchange Program. During 2005-6 he also served as the Director of Leadership Mount Allison. Dr. Farooqi brings a unique blend of corporate and academic experience to the Commerce Program. Previously he served as the Chief Executive Officer of a money management firm and successfully launched a multi-million Dollar mutual fund. He has conducted corporate consulting, training, workshops, seminars, and projects in the United States, Canada, UAE, Kazakhstan and Pakistan on behalf of the World Bank, United Nations Development Program, banks, development finance institution's and government departments.

Dr. Farooqi was awarded the Paul Pare Excellence Award in recognition of excellence in both teaching and Research at Mount Allison University in 2005 and 2006. He was also awarded the Student Administrative Council's Teaching
Award for the Faculty of Social Sciences in 2005. He was nominated for the prestigious 3M Teaching Fellowship (2006), the Tucker Teaching Award (2003, 2005 and 2007) and for the Association of Atlantic Universities Teaching
Excellence Award (2005).

Dr. Farooqi was born in Karachi, Pakistan and earned his B.Sc. from the Punjab University in 1983, securing distinction in Statistics and a gold medal for academic excellence. He stood first in the Faculty of Social Sciences in 1985, obtaining an MBA (Finance) from Quaid-e-Azam University and a gold medal in academics. He worked as Economic Advisor at the American Embassy in Pakistan before being awarded the Quaid-e-Azam Merit Scholarship in 1987 for doctoral study at St. Louis University, United States.

In 1993, after completing his MBA and Ph.D. (major finance and minor marketing) from St. Louis University, Dr. Farooqi returned to Pakistan and started his academic career at Quaid-e-Azam University. With the liberalization of financial markets in Pakistan, Dr. Farooqi was tapped to lead Asian Capital Management Limited, an investment advisory and money management firm, as President and Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Farooqi was instrumental in obtaining the corporate membership of the Islamabad Stock Exchange Guarantee Limited and launching the Asian Stocks Fund Limited, a Pakistan Rupees 100 million closed-end mutual fund.

In 1996 Dr. Farooqi was appointed as the Head of the Department of Business Administration at IIUI and charged with the responsibility of establishing this new department. Within two years of its establishment, the department
ranked third among business schools in Pakistan. Later, as a World Bank funded consultant for the Privatization Commission, Dr. Farooqi was involved in the privatization of banks, development finance institutions, insurance companies, and mutual funds.

Dr. Farooqi¹s research interests lie in the areas of teaching pedagogy and Informal Value Transfer Systems (IVTS). He is a member of the Financial Management Association, Financial Education Association and the Northern Finance Association.
