An IR degree is a great stepping stone toward a number of exciting opportunities. Many of our graduates have gone on to graduate school, where they have studied in program such as Political Science, Law, and International Relations. Other graduates have chosen international opportunities following graduation, including internships which have taken them to countries such as Romania, Sierra Leone, and Nicaragua.

Read some letters and notes from graduates who have chose to pursue either graduate school or international opportunities.

Graduate School

Keleigh Annau

Keleigh Annau was accepted by not one, but four, of the most prestigious universities in the world. "I heard back from Berkeley first, then the next week was Harvard, then Oxford and Columbia back to back," she says. "I never imagined I would get into my top four. I didn't really believe it." Annau says she kept rereading the acceptance letters to make sure she hadn't read them wrong. She is currently completing a Master's in public policy, with a concentration in environment and sustainability.

Susan Humphrey, (IR 2009)

Now at England’s University of Oxford taking a Master’s of Philosophy in ComparativePhoto of Susan. Politics, with a Rhodes Scholarship valued at more than $100,000.

“My area of particular interest is Middle Eastern religion, politics, and culture. As an interdisciplinary program, international relations has proven to be a perfect way to investigate theseareas and the connections that exist between them. I hope to pursue a career in the foreign service or non-governmental organizations, and look forward to a life that allows me to continue to learn about new people, places, and cultures.” To read more about Susan, please click on the link below:

Christina Macleod

As I am now fully into my master's program I realize how amazing our international relations program is and what amazing educational and experience opportunities we have access to. So if my write up could help to support the program or get more students interested that would be great.

Photo of Christina.I am currently completing my Masters in International Relations and Human Rights at the University of Auckland in New Zealand's north island. It is an intensive course, which incorporates master's course work and a thesis. The undergrad program at Mount Allison, under Dr. Legler, provides a great extensive theoretical and practical background of international relations. With the new interdisplinary program, it sets Mount Allison IR students above other students that have been forced to focus on just one of the essential aspects of international relations. With the rise of globalization and global interconnectedness through problems such as human rights and the environment, one needs to be equipped with tools from political science, economics, environmental studies, history and language. My honors in international relations at Mount Allison gave me the tools that allowed me to continue my research and be a top student in international relations. The opportunities that Mount Allison has given through the Leadership Mt. A program were extremely beneficial for taking the theories and lessons from the lecture theatre to the real world. I am thoroughly grateful for the opportunities and education I received at Mount Allison and am excited to take on the world.
