“When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist.”
-- Dom Helder Camara

The Social Determinants of HIV/AIDS

In 2007, the ESPRIT Lab conducted social policy research on behalf of the HIV/AIDS Action Network. This simulated non-profit organization has a mandate to address the  numerous social forces that affect HIV/AIDS prevention, transmission, and treatment. ESPRIT Interns  were responsible for working on a series of projects in which they conducted very important research on the social factors that impact people living with HIV/AIDS. The ESPRIT Interns worked hard to debunk the assertions that blame individuals living with HIV/AIDS for their misfortunes and to identify the social forces within society that affect their daily lives. ESPRIT Interns demonstrated that all people, regardless of their social class, gender, race, place of residence, sexual orientation, etc. are entitled to quality health care.
