Examples of Flex Time
With four small children to get ready for school, Susan has difficulty getting everyoneoff to school and getting herself to work on time. She discussed the situation with hersupervisor, and they agreed that Susan could start work at 9:00 a.m instead of 8:30 a.m., and remain at work for an additional half hour. Susan's mornings are much less rushed, and she is arriving at work on time and more relaxed.
Bill drives his wife to her job at another company. Her shift starts one hour before his, andhe has been driving past his job site on the way back home, where he passes time until it'stime to set out for his own job. He talked to his boss, and with the supervisor's agreement, Bill goes straight to work right after he drops his wife off and starts his day at 7:30 a.m. He finishes his work day at 3:30 p.m.
John cannot make arrangements for another family member to take care of his disabled son for four hours each Friday. John works independently in his job. Given the nature of both the job and the work operation, John's supervisor agrees to allow John to work 8 hours Monday through Thursday and 3 hours on Friday morning.
Shania works shifts at the Library Circulation Desk. She would like to finish evening shifts a half hour earlier. She proposes to her supervisor that she start her shift a half hour earlier but is turned down due to the nature of the job. The library could not operate efficiently without full staff for the entire shift.
