Examples of Plus Time

Sally lives some distance from the work place. Winter's coming, and she is nervous about driving in stormy conditions. She is relieved to know that she can ask permission to leave early if the weather gets bad, and she would like to have some time made up in advance. She and hersupervisor agree that she can accumulate five days of plus time, to be taken over the winter with the supervisor's approval, whenever Sally needs to leave work early.

Hal is an excellent amateur golfer, and represents New Brunswick in national competitions. It seems this summer, it rains every weekend, and Hal is not getting the practice time heneeds. He goes to his supervisor, and they agree that Hal can work longer on rainy days and use the accumulated time to take an afternoon off when the weather conditions are good, aslong as he has his supervisor's approval.

Workload in Justin's department can vary from day to day. Because of the nature of the work, a delay of a few days is acceptable, so there has never been a question of employer-initiated overtime. However, Justin gets great personal satisfaction from leaving a clean desk everynight. He and his supervisor agree that Justin can work into the evening on busy days, and take that time off on quieter days, with the supervisor's approval.
