Global Connect is a program offered by Leadership Mount Allison to facilitate international travel and cross-cultural experiences for Mount Allison students as part of leadership development. Through Leadership Mount Allison's grant program, students are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities for global experiences. Projects may be developed by students, faculty, staff, or community members, involving students who will be returning to Mount Allison when the project is completed.
Global Connect Students Leadership Mount Allison links leadership development to experiential learning, community service, active citizenship, and respect for diversity. Leadership Mount Allison is designed to foster attitudes, abilities, and skills that will allow students to be active participants in shaping a just and equitable world, through personal involvement, informed problem-solving, and visionary thinking. Global Connect is built on this underlying philosophy.
The objective of Global Connect is to provide students with international and cross-cultural opportunities as part of leadership development. The cross-cultural opportunities may include volunteer programs, internships, or study programs. Global Connect Student

Please note: It may be possible for students to obtain academic credit for Global Connect projects. Interested students should discuss their projects with their program advisor.

Global Connect projects may involve:

•Travel to communities outside Canada; or
•Travel to Canadian communities that are outside students' familiar domains; or
•Other types of links with global communities (including communities located outside Canada, and Canadian communities that are outside the familiar domains of Mount Allison students).

Global Connect projects share certain key features that are critical to the projects' success:

•The projects have a community service component. Students interact with local communities in the visiting countries, and they engage in activities that are developed and selected by a process that includes input from local community groups.
•The projects have an educational component. Students learn about the history, geography, and culture of the communities they visit, and they share the information when they return to Mount Allison.
•The projects have a leadership development component that encompasses both community service and learning. Students develop, plan, and implement the projects, and are responsible for follow-up activities, including end-of-project reports, public presentations, and other methods of sharing their experiences.
•The projects involve a sponsoring organization (such as Leaders Today, WUSC, Habitat for Humanity, Canada World Youth, etc.) to assist with the logistical arrangements.
