spacerBrown, Harry (1899-1917). A nineteen-year-old from Ganonoque, Ontario, Private Brown served with the 10th Battalion. With all signal wires cut, Brown carried messages through heavy enemy shelling during the battle for Hill 70 on August 16, 1917. Wounded, bleeding and in agonizing pain, Brown delivered his message before collapsing unconcious into the arms of an officer. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.
