Donald MacKay

Signal Flag Hoists spacer Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Donald MacKay (1906-1979) received his education at the Halifax Academy, Dalhousie University, and the Nova Scotia College of Art. After studying in England he returned to a teaching job in Toronto. In 1937 he returned to Halifax as vice-principal of the Nova Scotia College of Art. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Canadian Navy and became a War Artist in July, 1943. Following his return to Canada in 1945 he became principal of the Nova Scotia College of Art. He retired from this position in 1966. Donald MacKay died in 1979.
