ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:
The Sackville Board of Trade was organized in 1901 and incorporated
in 1902. Its purpose was to promote the Town of Sackville and
attract commerce to the community.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:
In 1948, the Sackville Board of Trade, Books 1, 2, and 3, were
deposited in the Mount Allison University Archives by an unidentified
donor (Accession 4801). In 1989 Charles Moffatt, the former
Secretary-Treasurer of the Board, deposited records for the
years 1915-1966 (Accession 8900). These records of the Board’s
Secretary-Treasurer constitute comprehensive documentation
of the activities of the Sackville Board of Trade, 1901-1966.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS:
Fonds consists of minutes, reports, constitution and bylaws,
correspondence, financial statements, annual returns, membership
lists and clipping. The records are organized in six series:
1. Sackville Board of Trade Books
2. General Correspondence, 1915-1966
3. Subject Correspondence, 1922-1966
4. Subject Files, 1921-1965
5. Financial Records, 1919-1958
6. Certificates of membership
The General Correspondence file contains some committee reports which chronicle the activities of the standing and ad-hoc committees of the Board. Fonds also includes: Stamp of the Sackville Board of Trade (artifact); a wooden gavel presented to the Sackville Board of Trade on its 50th Anniversary by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, 1952; and a photograph of a group of unidentified men on a platform in front of the Armoury, Sackville, New Brunswick.
